FAQs

The product

What is RAWA? A hydration formula in single-serve sticks. Each stick dissolves in 500ml of water and replaces the sodium, potassium, magnesium and chloride you lose through sweat. One carton holds 16 sticks (160g).

How is it different from a normal sports drink? More sodium, less sugar. Mainstream sports drinks are built mostly around carbohydrate for fuel, with a small amount of sodium. RAWA is built around the minerals, because in this climate that's usually what you're actually short of.

How much sodium is in one stick? That is deliberately higher than a standard sports drink. If you're on a sodium-restricted diet for any medical reason, check with your doctor first.

Is there sugar in it? No added sugar; sweetened with stevia and sucralose. Full nutritional information is on the carton and on each product page.

What flavours are there? Two: Watermelon and Lime & Lemon.

When should I drink it? Whenever you've lost fluid or expect to. Before or during training, after a long day outdoors, on a flight, when you've been on coffee since morning, or first thing after a heavy night. Most people find one stick a day is plenty.

Can I have more than one a day? Up to 2 sticks a day is fine for most healthy adults. Beyond that, you're taking in a lot of sodium, so don't.

Do I have to mix it with 500ml? That's the ratio we formulated it at. Less water makes it salty and harder to drink; more water dilutes the flavour but the minerals still get where they're going.

Is it suitable during Ramadan? Yes, and it's one of the better uses for it. One stick with suhoor and one after iftar handles most of the fluid loss from a long fasting day in summer. Don't take it during fasting hours.

Is it halal? Yes. Our hydration sticks are certified halal. The collagen is certified halal.

Is it vegan? The hydration sticks are. The collagen is not — collagen is an animal protein, and anything sold as "vegan collagen" is not collagen.

Can children take it? Not without speaking to a paediatrician. The sodium level is set for adults.

Can I take it while pregnant or breastfeeding? Ask your doctor before you do. We're not going to guess on your behalf.

I have kidney disease, high blood pressure or a heart condition. Can I take it? Check with your doctor first. These products contain meaningful amounts of sodium and potassium, and both matter a great deal if your kidneys or blood pressure are being managed.

Collagen

What kind of collagen is it? Hydrolysed so it dissolves without clumping.

What does it taste like? Mixed berries. It mixes into water, coffee or laban without thickening.

How long before I notice anything? Most published studies on collagen peptides run for eight to twelve weeks of daily use. If you're going to try it, give it that long before deciding.

Can I take the collagen and the electrolytes together? Yes. Different sachets, same glass if you like.
